WTCA Member SeminarPost Event Report

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of our entire international team at WTCA Headquarters, I would like to thank everyone for their participation in the 2011 WTCA Member Seminar held December 12 – 14th in New York City.  The theme of this year’s event focused on best practices as exemplified by some of the most successful World Trade Centers.  A particular emphasis was placed on big ideas and transferrable initiatives that are important to our offices around the world, regardless of their stage of development.Below is a brief recap of the highlights that defined the 2011 WTCA Member Seminar:

The Delegates

Over 150 participants representing 61 World Trade Centers from 26 Countries attended the three-day event.   Existing World Trade Center Presidents and their staffs attended to keep themselves abreast of the latest trends and successful strategies being implemented in World Trade Centers.  World Trade Centers with licenses that had been approved within the past year were introduced to the best practices and most efficient way to begin offering services.  And finally, there were organizations from North America, Europe and Asia in attendance that were in the final stages of evaluating a decision to apply for membership in the World Trade Centers Association.  We were especially pleased to welcome these individuals who represent the future growth of our growing global footprint in the year ahead.

The Speakers

This year’s presenters were drawn from leading World Trade Centers from throughout our network.  Most of the speakers represented certified World Trade Centers and were experts with proven track records of accomplishing truly outstanding results in their own regions.  Recognized trade experts from outside our network complemented the roster of speakers to give their perspective on running a successful World Trade Center.  Finally, several members of the WTCA staff came forward to impart their expertise to the participants in ongoing service to our valued members.  Each speaker was specifically asked to tailor their remarks in ways that would allow participants to recognize the transferable nature of their successes.

The Sessions

The WTCA Member Seminar agenda included many new topics that were a direct reflection of input provided by each World Trade Center over the year.  The sessions were designed to invite as much interaction with the speakers as possible and to facilitate member-to-member dialogue on the issues that mattered most.  The sessions covered important topics such as branding and how to leverage brand compliance into a more powerful image locally.  Revenue generation was an integral part of the seminar with sessions from leading World Trade Centers helping participants understand how to generate sustainable revenue through services and branded WTC facilities.  The power of strategic planning and reporting results were conveyed to the group as well.  The real estate factor was presented with an outside real estate expert highlighting the global performance of World Trade Center branded facilities in key markets.  Finally, WTCA’s commitment to continuous improvement and benchmarking were presented through a discussion on quality certification and how to achieve certification early in the development of a World Trade Center.

Networking

Incorporated into the three day sessions were multiple opportunities - during the Welcome Reception, the breaks and luncheons - to network and exchange ideas.  The opportunity to learn from each other and to engage in further dialogue on important issues has been one of the long-standing hallmarks of the WTCA Member Seminar and WTCA events in general worldwide.  To view the photographs of each day’s activities, click here:Tour of World Trade Center Memorial and Redevelopment SiteA special VIP tour was arranged for the first 75 delegates to the conference with tour guides who provided perspective on the significance of the site and the timeline for the rebuilding that will be ongoing through 2014.

Focus Groups & Member Feedback

WTCA’s commitment to invite member input into the future of the Association was further evidenced by opportunities for participants to take part in focus groups that addressed various aspects of services provide to them.  The focus groups were professionally facilitated by an outside firm with objective feedback invited from each participant.  WTCA surveyed the participants throughout the sessions to get their reaction to how useful the information was to their needs.  The preliminary results of the survey data are strong with overall satisfaction with the event as either Satisfied or Very Satisfied with the vast majority being very satisfied with the overall Member Seminar experience.

The 2011 WTCA Member Seminar was a great success and by many accounts one of the best yet.  WTCA would like to thank the speakers and each and every delegate for their investment of time and effort to participate.  One of the greatest honors we have as your Association is the privilege of serving you and working hand-in-hand as we work together to build the strongest and most vibrant network of World Trade Centers possible.

Robert J. Frueh

Executive Vice President

The WTCA Member Seminar is a yearly event, hosted by WTCA Headquarters in New York City, FREE OF CHARGE to all WTCA members and prospective members.

This year it was held on December 12th, with a special visit to the WTCA future office site in lower Manhattan and a Welcome Reception and Dinner, followed by a 2-day training program. The program featured presentations and discussions by veteran WTC operators and WTCA Headquarters staff, on every phase of WTC planning, development and operations. Participants also received a complimentary ticket to the musical  "Spiderman".

Here are the presentations that will given and can be downloaded by clicking on the link. Some files are very large and may take some time to download.
